I
have exhibited original art from my books over the years. At the Chrysler
Museum in Virginia, Museum for Women in Washington. Every Picture Tells a
Story in Los Angeles, The New York Public Library and many others.
Pictures
of mine are included in several children’s art oriented small museums in
Japan as well as in private collections.
Most
recently [January 2005] I was delighted to be included in a large group
exhibition of current children’s book illustrators at the Rye Art Center
in Westchester county.
Always
delighted to be asked to the Mazza Enthusiasts Summer Institute, I was the
closing speaker in July 2004. And the enthusiasts were indeed that, lovely
and out in full force.
I
was one of the speakers at the Vermont Library Association
Convention
in Burlington May 2003.
My
focus at that talk was on “All the Worlds’ a Stage,” the picture
book about a selection of Shakespeare plays with a text by Rebecca Piatt
Davidson. A project, time consuming and very dear to my heart, since it
allowed me to immerse myself in the revisiting of Shakespeare plays and
scholarly essays, as well as propelling me to an illuminating visit to The
Globe theatre in London.
Some
of my favorite appearances have been at Richland County Library in
Columbia South Carolina, [where I have made life long friends,] I have
also appeared at the University of Redlands Children’s Book conference,
begun by the incomparable Charlotte Huck. My association with Charlotte
began when I illustrated Princess Furball. Toads and Diamonds followed.
And later The Bull of Norroway followed.
I
have also spoken at the Ohio University conference in Columbus where
Charlotte was the longtime legendary professor.
I
have appeared at the New England Literature Conference. Several times at
ALA, IRA, ABA. As well as various conferences in Baltimore and Virginia.
I
have been a speaker at the Hattiesburg Mississippi conference which houses
the important Gruman collection.
Several
appearances at a the always very well attended and varied November book
fair at the University of Connecticut at Storrs.
In
New York City, not far from where I live, I often do book signings at
Peter Glassman’s Books of Wonder.
