A
selected quote from review in The New York Times, when the book first
appeared in a different edition in1990.
“A
charming collection of Jewish folktales….a well balanced offering of
whimsical, romantic and tragic fables with surprising complexity and
resonance.”
Eleven
years later Janet Shulman, the editor of Random House/Knopf decided to
reissue My Grandmother’s Stories. She asked me to reillustrate the new
edition, which appeared in 2003.
I
was delighted to accept the offer. I thoroughly enjoyed making the
pictures for the variety of wise and foolish tales contained in this
collection.
When
the version with my pictures came out in the fall of 2003 I was sent on a
busy book tour to Jewish book fairs, schools and community centers. One
full week on the road form Miami to Cincinnati to Cleveland to Detroit to
Storrs Connecticut.
